Fall Colors

I'm gonna try to tie a few jigs to use this fall. Any colors that I should use?? I'm new to both crappie fishing and jig tying so any help would be great.

Last falls hot color combo for me here in deep east Texas was a White tail, Blue Body ( Copenhagen Blue ), Plain unpainted head. The other pattern that you can never go wrong with is the Eletric Chicken. One more that I have in my fall box of tricks is Shad Gray tail, Silver tinsel chenille body, and a dark red head. The last pattern seems to work very well when fishing the edge of a bait ball. I might add that early in the fall I like the Marabou tails and as the weather gets colder in the very late fall I switch to Kip Tail. This will vary from place to place but this is what works for me.

i would tye wat ever ur crappies main food is in the body of water if it was crawdad i would use a crwdad color chenile with some flash and some drak brown marbou and some dark red. if shad i would use a solid white chennile with some gray marbiou or white marbiou

Remeber that in the fall minnows and shad are larger, so you might want to tie on larger heads like 1/8 oz. The color patterns that work in the spring and summer will also work in the fall. I like to use a 1/8 jig and tip it with a minnow to give the apperance of a larger bait.

It's hard to say what colors to tie having not ever laid eyes on the body of water. It's mostly going to depend on how deep you have to fish in the fall/winter months. Color hues change with depth so what color you think the fish are seeing may be something totally different. Whites are least likely to change color in the water and are quite visible in deep water. In slightly murky water I'd suggest all white, or something with some blue in it if you're fishing 15ft +

Welcome from Alabama and to jig tying. Chartreuse and a contrasting color is great for stained water year round.

chartreuse and red bobby garland makes a baby shad model that is a translucent chart. with a ton of red flake if you can imitate that you should have a succesful tie on your hands

The single bait I caught more crappie on over all other was when I was guiding here on Toledo bend back in the 1970's and it's still made today. It is a 1/32 Oz. Roadrunner with FL Red Head/Kelly Green/FL Yellow tail. I call mine Christmas jig and it still does well today. They still sell it as the Original Roadrunner and still same colors for that one. I tie it also and fish with it. However sometimes on this lake if you really hit them right you can catch a bunch.

Different days...different colors. I will say blue/white did good when it started getting cold. Best for me was anything with a chart tail.

The " Christmas jig" is good year round and always has been. Too many real old timers mouths have released that one over the years, including my paw and tying teacher.
I believe a blaze orange head is better though.
I think that Fall color is just relative to the water you're on. Can't go wrong with orange!
