Blending marabou tails?
I saw some pictures in the stickied pics thread of jigs with multiple colored marabou in the tail. I was just wondering how you would get that effect? I have blood quills, and it seems that the fibers on one feather are about right for one jig as far as bulk goes. So if you want to use more than one color feather, do you strip the fibers off a plume and just use half?

I always just pull off what I want and only grab as much and my one finger and thumb can pinch. I make a stack of them until I get enough. I would guess (since I have not counted) I probably pinch off a feather 6-8 times and leave the tips of another type tie, maybe on some flies since I only leave on the shortest part which is maybe 1" to 1 1/2" of stem still has the barbules still on it when I stop and get another feather. Lots of time I will have one part done and just start from there.

X3 here too. It all depends on the look you want. Pull some off, tie it down. Add a second contrasting color and tie it in. Add flashabou as an option or crystal flash. Tie in your chenille body and whip finish.

That makes me X4. Fool with it and see how it appeals to you. I tie a "whatevers left on the bench" jig now and then and surprise myself with them now and then. Face it, it's nothing a razor blade can't fix.

Well that makes five of us. When Skip, Ship , and Pbug tell you something take it to the bank. These guys are masters at there craft and have tied about as many as any one. Learn from them and you won't go wrong.
