A friend went over and caught a mess of decent crappie. Went home and cooked them and they were off flavored. Like catfish during a plankton bloom. Is this normal or a once in a lifetime deal???

sometimes if you dont have em in slushy ice water they will ruin this time of year. maybe thats what happened
That sounds weird. I've had friends fishing there for the past few months, and haven't heard that one yet. They have been catching some decent numbers of both crappie and bream, but no one has mentioned a bad flavor to them. Dont have a clue why that would happen.
You need to keep fish covered in ice but it's not good to let them set in water. Fish in the markets are packed in ice , water is drained off regularly. The fish ruin quicker in water verses ice.
I agree with you NIMROD. I do not use my livewell, I put my fish in a cooler on ice. I keep them there all weekend and clean them on Monday. As long as they have ice on them water drained every now and then they stay fine. Also all my Wapa crappie have been fine this year.
Ow do u get there?h
Take 63 towards Memphis. Dont take the Memphis exit just go straight over I-55. About 5 miles or so look for a yellow gate at the railroad track on the left. Cross it and there you are. Tommy if you decide to give it a try PM me and I will tell you were to fish
