Take a look at this outrigger sailing canoe with a 2 h.p. outboard rigged to the cross beam. I was wondering if just taking a 2 x 4 and lashing something together would be better than bolting things together. e.g., if you run across a stump the lashing just give and sway whereas the hard bolt make stress points.
This method would also allow you to use a shorter shaft motor since the motor mount is below the gunnels.
A 2hp has a lot of torque, I suspect the lashings would constantly loosen and/or stretch. I wouldn't want a loose motor next to my hull. Might work with a 28-32lb TM, but might not.

Well, he has an anti-torque rope secured to a cleat inside and under the gunnel. You can't see it here, but I bought his book on outrigger sailing canoes where he addresses the issue.
