Has anyone trolled roadrunners or spinner baits for crappie at crankbait speeds? Just curious if it would work at all.

There is an older man that fishes Old River that says that he used to throw two poles with a roadrunner on each one out as far as he could and then crank his trolling motor up and go straight down the middle of the lake and catch em pretty good... I have never tried it but he says it works..
It will work, I have long lined Horse heads at Greers with good results 1-3 MPH
We do it quite often. Sometimes that is the best way to get them to bite. We even pull jigs that fast also.
Thanks for the information everyone. I plan to try doing this at the same time I pull cranks. I'll let you know how it goes.
talk to torch and satdoc on the ms board. they are literrally pros at it and pretty nice guys.
How heavy are the jig heads you use at 3 mph. Seems like they would skipping on the surface at that speed. I thought an 1/8 jig at 3/4-1mph was the deal. What have I been missing? More info PLEASE.
All the way up to 1/4 oz jigheads. However, we usually use 1/16 jigheads but place .5 to 1.0 oz weights 18 inches above them to act as a downrigger. Sometimes they really attack 'em when going fast....especially with a Bobby Garland Stroll'er (curly tail). Always something else to try when when they aren't biting our typical setup.
