Bluegill are off schedule.

Here in TN we had a goofy Spring as far as weather. But in my 40 plus years of seriously fishing for Gills I have never had a Spring like this. My two main lakes..80 acres and 300 acres....are great Bluegill lakes. The Gills have yet to move shallow. We bank fisherman have caught some but it takes all day from sunup to sundown to get a limit of 20 from the bank. I mean these two lakes are full of Gills. I also fish Center Hill Lake and the Gills never moved shallow at the location I fish at which is about 2 miles of bank. I have experienced the same thing at my hole below the dam at Pickwick. Has anyone else in the south noticed this behavior with the Gills so far this year?

I know what you mean. I have been fishing the Lake side of Pickwick. I have caught a bunch of bream, but I have been catching them 25 yards or more off the bank in 10' plus water. Weird pattern, but I have caught over 500 in the last month. I have been fishing with cork, about 4 ft deep.

Alpha .... I think EVERYTHING is off schedule, this year. The Crappie may even still be trying to spawn Doh Bluegills & Shellcrackers were being caught off the nest, back when the Moon was in the New Moon phase :eek:

Yes, we in northern Illinois have had a weird spring this year, all fish seemed 2 to 4 weeks off normal but, the blue gills have only been 1 to 2 weeks behind as we were getting some 95 degree days in between all the rains(inches per day1x-3x days per week). On most lakes/ponds up here the gills have just finished their spawn, maybe a few left but not many.

We got an 11" Crappie the other afternoon in 2 FOW it was in amongst bedded Bluegills. We were getting Bluegills, Perch, and Crappie all in the same area. ????
