Good spring so far!
I don't post a whole lot, especially fishing trip reports. But I figured you all might enjoy a few pictures of something a bit different... My main method of fishing is with a fly rod, and I love targeting bluegills. Right now is the perfect time to be out, because they're shallow and aggressive!
Mixed stringer. The crappie were super shallow next to some brush... it was a nice surprise to set the hook on a 12" slab while out gill fishing!

My new custom rod... a fiberglass 3-weight, with a stout 8" gill

One of the lakes I fish has a small population of longear sunfish... What they lack in size they make up for in beauty!

In the last week or so, I've brought a little over 50 bluegills and 3 or 4 crappies home. Can't complain! If any of you are ever around and would like to try catching some fish on a fly, give me a shout. If I can do it, you can too...

Good catch, I usally bag a few bluegils every year, mainly farm ponds. Like them rolled in pancake batter, deep fried, great eating.

Nice trout! Thanks for posting the pictures... those hybrid gills can be extremely aggressive. I had one try and eat a Jitterbug twice last night when I was trying to wake a bass or two up.

That sunfish in the bottom pic is freaking cool! Nice job. I don't think I've ever caught one of those, at least not in spawning colors like that.
