Fishing this morning
Went out to a local lake this morning and decided to follow the solunar calendar for the best feeding times for the fish in my area (first time ever using it). Got to the lake around 6:30, sun was up but having some trouble really shining behind some high clouds to the east, so i sat on the west bank for a bit and just looked at the water, pure glass, no wind, no activity.
Decided to start off with a small x-rap shad and after a few throws and normal retrieve i saw the first of many little ripples brushing the surface of the water near my casting spot, kept an eye out for jumps and finally started to see some small ones jumping. I made the switch to a minnow crankbait (hot pink) to try and bring some flashy colors that would offset the now bright sunrise. Thats when the bigger splashes started happening but no bites really. So after 30 - 45 min of no luck and continued splashing, i got the biggest minnow crankbait i had size 12 and started casting that, still no luck originally but once i started jerking the bait upwards twice and pausing, i got hits. Bagged a total of 6 smallmouth bass and 2 largemouths. Size wasn't very impressive on the smallmouths, in fact the crankbait was probably 2/3rd's their size but the largemouths were decent, one 17" and one 24". Once the wind picked up out of the northeast and made the lake a bit more choppy, the jumping stopped and i didn't get any more hits.
I think I will follow that solunar schedule a bit more often.
