Fish Attractors In West Point Lake

I'm new to the board and I was hoping that someone could help me out here. I understand that West Point Lake Coalition put 144 fish attractors in West Point Lake in 2005. They said they were going to post the locations (GPS Coordinates) at Southern Harbor and Highland Marina but the folks at those locations haven't hear anything. Any of you guys know where they are? Got any good spots on West Point or Lake Harding to fish with this cold snap we're having right now. Going out Tuesday night for Crappie looking of a fishing hole with some good'uns in it.

Did you ever get that list of GPS #'s?

Ride the shoreline on the east side of the lake and look for trees that have been cut down in the water.Known places are bird creek batson cook branch and maple creek. When the crappie move up they should be in some of these places.

I saw the trees that had been cut down in Maple Creek. I laughed and told my buddy that some shyster had slipped in there with a chainsaw.

This morning I also wanted to rekindle this thread with an offer. As I have an affinity for maps and usually have time on my hands I have discovered how to share maps with the group. Don't worry - nothing secret going on here. As a test bed I want to offer this map and see if it is useful to the group.

Your feedback will let me know if it is worth pushing info like this to the forum & I can do the same with just about any body of water in the US. We can look at Boat Ramps and Bridges, Roadbeds and Pond Dams, Points and Humps, Rocks, Culvert Pipes and other odd items or just the Wood Structure including standing timber, stumps and planted Fish Attractors that we have represented here.

Now this does not have the Fish Attractors that DBE022576 spoke of back in 2006. I've never seen that list. What this does include is publicly available information that can be found on the Mobile District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website, the 20 places that PVC FA were placed in a project that the scouts had in Wehadkee Creek a while back as well as other places I've generated based upon Google Earth and some old 1964 topo maps. That said, some of these places are shallow so if the lake doesn't come up to full pool they may be on the bank.

I mention this because based upon the past three years of data the lake will be at 632 feet MSL at the end of March. This level will represent 3 feet below the full pool of 635. The archive graphs available at West Point Lake Water Level show a significant rise in lake level that occurs in either the end of February or the beginning of March each year. The West Point Lake Water Level of 628 feet MSL appears to be the US Army Corps of Engineers preferred winter pool level, based upon publicly available recorded levels from 2009-2014.

I don't want to overwhelm with data but instead introduce tools that any angler can use to his/her advantage. Mostly I just want it to be fun and perhaps encourage someone to get out more often and enjoy the great outdoors!

I will try it at home this afternoon. I have heard the Corp has structure in this lake. Thanks!

Now talk about coincidence. Thinking about what DBE022576 spoke of back in 2006 I do a Google search for the West Point Lake Coalition and locate their FaceBook page that has a picture of a document that details 27 Fish Attractors that they have placed in the lake. One snafu I've noticed from the original map I posted above is that there's a rouge point named "Stump Flat" that's across the main channel from Pyne Road Park. Instead it should be below the Railroad Tracks in the back of the cove and in behind an old road bed. Later I'll fix the first map and edit the post above but the simplest solution short term is to just clue you in to where the "Stump Flat" actually exists. It is located at 33.044186, -85.172238
