I am not a guy that likes to beat the banks for crappie during spawn...But, I know sometimes you have to catch them..
Anyways, I am looking for tips on areas to drop cover for potential good areas for spawn...

Would suggest "ASK the Biologist', Kansas state forum...am no expert, but would rather catch those BIGGER females that generally come shallow, spawn, and then go deeper again relatively quickly...the smaller males "nest".
I went down the bank when the river was a little lower than normal and stuck every branch I could find in the mud, there was a groove of river cane, it went in the mud, anything I could carry over to the mud bank I used.
It worked great this year, I new right were to go from the bank and I knew pretty much what was still there. I would say to try it but it took slot of time this past winter.
My thoughts exactly...I don't pound the banks with the masses anymore. I ease around sunken cover in 8-15 FOW and grab the big females...quietly. Don't want to attract ant attention ;)Quote:

Dense cover near deep water with soft bottom is wher we try to keep our crappie fry cover.
