Lower Roanoke River Striper Sat 3-11 and Sat 3-18
Thought I would share how I did the last two weekends on the Lower Roanoke river. As these were my first trips after the Striper:
Sat 3-11 we launched out of Plymouth and fished right at the mouth of the river, we used cut herring that we purchased at a fish market in Plymouth (they cost $1.25 a piece)... We also Used Bass Minnows that I purchased from the baitshop here before I left. We fished ALL Day and not one bite, nor did I mark many fish. We left not discouraged but more determined to boat a striper
Did some more research and the went back Saturday 3/18. This time we put the boat in at Jamesville and tried jigging in deep holes using Bucktails for a couple of hours with no luck. Went back to shore and bought Herring from a guy at the ramp. He was selling them for 2 bucks a piece! Well determined to catch a fish we baught 5 of em and went back out. Went to the same hole we started in because I was marking ALOT of fish on the bottom. We procedded to catch thugs and what I am guessing are blackfish.
The boat next to us decided that they had had enough and decided to call it quits but their motor would not start so we towed them in to the ramp and decided to head downstrream from there. The good deed must of helped because that is where we did it. After catching more catfish and blackfish we boated two stripped bass quickly. first was just shy of 22" and the second one was just over 18". Pheww! They were within the slot and went into the cooler!
Once the run really starts its gonna be something!
