Hook color?
For three I've been tying a float-n-fly, and now have started doing a few crappie jigs...The bass side everyone just gets all excited about hook color? Is that the same with you guys...I use a mustad wide gap bronze color. Mustad has informed me that they are discontinuing that hook. I have 2000 in stock. I will in the future change hook manufactures...so when I do I would like a better understanding about colors of hooks...some have come to me and said they hate black nickle. Please share your thoughts...or preferences...please...thanks

Yes always new people coming in and some topics actually have not been beat to death and this is probably one of the ones that has not. It's been brought up, but no harm in bringing it up again.

Which model hook are you talking about??? This will help, we all know places to find older style hooks

I leaning towards Mat. sickle hook.... problem is now I'm not sure what size. I want to go with #4 or #2 will stay with three weight sizes 1/16, 1/24, 1/32 most of the folks here long troll or shoot docks...

I would use the #2 on the 1/16oz and the #4 on the other 2. I only use Red Sickle but that;s just me. I like a flash of red in every jig I tye.

was on the phone to my hook supplier....the black nickle he says is sharper than the bronze or the red....he fishes a tournament trail (crappie) and is a jig maker too...will take his advise under consideration. thanks to all that responded....It is my hope to contribute to this site my successes and failures.

For crappie jigs I don't think you can beat a gold Aberdeen hook, I like size 6.

black nickle all the way. I pour all four types, black nickle, gold, red, and bronze. BN is the sharpest out of the 4 in my opinion..
