as it says im looking to buy a new 5 or 7. im looking for di and si if its possible. i dont really know what all the letters and abbreviations mean so what is the best series i looked at an elite and xd. also which is the best sonar for these systems. any help appreciated
I would go with the Lowrance HDS 7 with the structure scan bundle if it were me. The larger screen on the 7 makes it easier to see detail. I say with the structure bundle because you will need the ls1 structure scan module and transducer to have the Down scan and side imaging. That said the bigger screen the better. I ordered last week a hds 10 and 7 with the structure scan bundle from a sponsor here. I went with Brian at BBG marine. Can't say enough about the guy! He answered every ? I could think of and gave me a price that just blew away any big box store.
The HDS-5 and 7 have essentially the same features. When I first switched to Lowrance HDS from another brand, I bought 2 HDS-5s and the LSS-1. I recently sold my HDS-5's and bought 7's. I would urge anyone on the fence to go with 7's. The screen size makes a huge difference. The 5's are great, and carry a 2yr warranty, and will do everything the 7 will do, so It's not a bad unit, and I used my 5's for 12-14 months. The elite units don't compare with the HDS units. Elite will do gps and downscan. HDS will do Down scans side scan, and can be networked together through the LSS-1 and share waypoints, routes, and trails. If the units are networked, you can view the LSS features from any unit that is networked.
