My boat had two trolling batteries which are rigged 24v. They have separate cables going to the front that hook into outlet which looks like a 220v twist and lock.
I want to add a fuse to my cables but am not sure what to do. The Terrova wants a 60a fuse. Can I add 30a to each cable going up or do i need to do 60a on each?
I've never seen a set up like this and I'm a little lost...

All you need is a 60 amp circuit breaker installed on the positive lead at the battery. Sounds like you have a Marinco plug which is a very good plug for a trolling motor.
There are two 6ga cables going up. Do I need one on both?

You must have had a 12/24 motor up there at one time. For the Terrova you only need one pos and one neg cable. You may have to rewire the plug to match the wiring to the TM.

Does it hurt anything to be wired the way it is? I put the plug on the terrova and plugged it to make sure it worked. Everything seemed to run fine. If I put twin fuses on the power cables? If it needs to be redone then it needs to be redone. But I want to avoid pulling new wire unless it is necessary.

Sounds like your boat was wired for a old style 12/24 trolling motor......The motor you have now just requires the two batteries to be wired in series as Bill has shown.....only one of your positive wires going to the TM will be used.....the positive lead going from your batteries to the TM is the only lead that you need the circuit breaker installed on and that should be done at or very near the battery. If you are un sure of your wireing and how to do it then you need to go to a boat shop and get it checked out.
I would unhook one of the positive cables you have now, tape up both ends and leave it for a spare. Like G said, you only need one, but a spare might be nice to have some time.
Are both positive wires terminated on the same post of the same battery?
