Luke ... according to the Seafoam website - it's good for 2stroke, 4stroke, or diesel engines.
Stabil says the same ... but, recommends using Marine Stabil for outboards. (and all blends of gas/ethanol)
Now .... that's what the company websites say, which is what you'd expect them to say.
Read the ingredient list on this link, for a more informed idea of whether or not you really even need either of these products, much less both :
Is your gas additive safe with E10 fuel?
Again ... this link is to a company that's trying to sell "their" products. BUT, their listing of the MSDS/ingredients of additives is the more important aspect. And, while they claim that these additives may not be as big a help as advertised, or even cause or aid the problem ... the ingredient list shows Marine Stabil to not contain harmful ingredients, and Seafoam has a disclaimer about the Isopropyl Alcohol content.
Your NEW motor shouldn't need either product ... just yet. Marine Stabil might be useful if you don't use all the gas out of your tank, within a month or two. Seafoam might be useful if/when you've run the motor at low speeds for extended periods of time. Remember - Stabil is a fuel stabilizer .... Seafoam is a carbon deposits solvent.
A good water seperator unit may be a more effective primary purchase.
... cp
Thank you, Sir.
I have never used Seafoam, but I have always used Stabil in my 200 hp Yamaha. That is some good info you put out. I am soon getting me a new rig and I want to start off right. I will have a new 40 hp Yamaha and I think I will use the Seafoam. Can you use both since they do different jobs?
Thank you again and have a good evening Sir.
Jim
Sea Foam is also a stabilizer so you don't need to use both. My area of the world has been on E-10 for over 12 years now. I have been using sea foam in all of the 11 various motors I have and have had 0 problems from ethanol.
i have some seafoam and stabil i very seldom put any in any of my tanks .the onley engin i have herd of ethonal has harmed is the small weedeaters and such . not sure if it hurts them . the mfg. of such blames it on it. like the ARMOALL VINYAL TREATMENT . IT DOES NOTHING TO KEeP THE VINYAL SOFT IT DOES MORE DAMAGE THAN GOOD . no petrolum product is good for vinyal . a lot of that stuf is made to sell. when i sold vinyal pickup bed covers warenty stated if you use the vinyal treatment it would void the warenty .also the spray that is used by furniture storse to keep the furniture clean will kill the warenty . i know this from experinse with a store on lazyboy recliner.
Use it and do not worry I use it in all my engines from the truck to the lawn mower. I have for years, seafoam is a mechanics worst friend or so state my buddy who worked at a marinia. My 115 Rude was spitting some we ran a double dose of Seafoam in it and it runs like new now. Maybe over kill but I run both stabil and seafoam, I figure due to the cost of motors and parts better safe than sorry.
I had an 02 carbed 90 4 stroke that I kept having problems with.
The mechanic I went to said to run seafoam in every tank.
I have and haven't been back to him since.
Now I have a 90 Opti and I still use the seafoam.
No problems yet.
I use it in my lawnmower, weed eater, rototiller and have no problems with them either.
I'll continue to use it.
I have a 1969 25 horse Evinrude motor on my jon boat. We have had it for years and year and never had any work down except the water pump. It stayed in storage for 10 years after being at the beach most of it's life. I put it back on the boat and she fired right up. It spit and sputtered for a while. I bought a can of Seafoam and ran a double dose of it in a couple of tanks. I did not drain the carb after each trip. Each time it ran better and better. Now it idles great and runs smooth. It always fires right up and after it warms up a little it is ready to go.

Run sea foam in every tank @ 1oz per gallon. The most important thing is let the engine warm up to full operating temperature before hammering down on the throttle and allow at least 45 seconds idle to cool down before shutting it off.
