Have you all ever found wormy fish?
Cleaned a crappie this fall which looked like little round worms in the guts, didn't think much about it. One of these catfish had some two, so I did some reading and YES THEY ARE WORMS!! kinda creepy!

All animals can have parasites. I've cleaned crappie and sometimes when you cleaning up the fillets you will see a small red spot. If you cut it open you will find a tiny white worm. Not sure what kind but it will be curled up in the flesh.
fried up good they just add protien
It's not so bad in the river lakes but certain other lakes are known for having wormy fish. That's why I won't scale a fish out of certain lakes. Have to filet to find 'em. They won't harm you if you eat them but I just don't like the idea.
I am the same way, I wade fish a small river in Oklahoma for small mouth and they almost all have those little worms in the meat. I try to cut them out when I see them and try to fool myself into thinking I got them all. But mostly I try not to think about it or look too closely when I am eating them.
Speckled trout are really bad for that. Just don't look for them and cook them good.
I've seen it. Cut some out a few years ago and they were about the size of a red wiggler, but they were kinda stiff. Wardens said it just added protein and could be caused from bird waste in the water.
Catch alot of Kentucky bass on the St. Francis that have em. Have also killed ducks that had them in their breast. Asked a biologist about it, he laughed and told me if I knew about all the parasites wild animals had, I'd never eat any of them. Just cook em, worm meat is still meat.
That is why i soak mine in salt water for a night before i freeze mine... Most of the time i will find them worms on top of the water in the bowl... I'm sure that it doesn't get them all out but I def see them after they soak in the salt water..
