I had a question, but

I"m sure it will be answered in a round about way just by reading. You guys have been busy in here. I didn't check this forum because I don't tie and, for now, don't pour any jigs although I have plenty of lead but no molds yet. I asked a question about painting jigheads and a couple of guys referred me here. I don't know why it didn't dawn on me that the guys making and pouring jigs would be painting them too. Doh I got lots of reading ahead of me. :D Thanks for the info, and I'm sure I'll have some more questions as I start to make a mess of things.

If ya do a search for paint or powder paint I'm sure you'll get all the threads you could want to read, and then some. I keep it simple - a plain unscented candle, hemostats, and jars of powder paint. I do orders up to 75 or so jigs and it's been working for me for 3 or 4 years now.

Thanks smooth. Simple is the way I want to keep it also. I have a number of plain jigheads that I want to paint. Once I have them painted and need more, I'll probably just buy them already painted from someone on here. I got to where I'm liking those painted heads. I don't know if someone is close to me from here who pours. I would trade the lead for some jigheads on sickles. I think I've about talked myself out of buying the molds and pouring myself.

Thank you. I got some paint, and I'm gonna give it a go today I think.

Keep in mind that when you begin pouring that soft, pure lead doesn't work the same as the wheel weights that are easier to get. The pure is the way to go, and mix in a little WW when you can. Opinions differ slightly on this, but starting out the soft works so much easier.

skeetbum, WW is all that I have. I have been looking around for someone near me that has a mold, to trade off some jigs or lead for the use of it, but no luck so far.

I did paint ten jigs yesterday. Nothing to it, and they turned out really good. I'm not gonna bake these, gonna see how they last before I do that. Right now, our kitchen stove is all I have to use and if they last well enough without baking then that just makes the process faster. If the paint all comes off before I can use them, then I'll bake them for a more durable finish. I don't usually go through a lot of jigs, so they may be in the box a while, and I might need to bake.
