I pour my first jigs tonight! After a few odd balls I got the hang of it and was able to make 110. I notice it took longer to put the hooks in the mold than pouring. One question I have is I twisted the sprew off. It is faster and cleaner looking to cut off?

Welcome to the craziness!!!!! Just keep being safe and pour away!!!!!!!! You can also flux the lead you already cleaned to make it even better.

Yeah lead is very easy to twist off. After you get the hang of it you do it neatly too.
In most cases it's faster and easier to twist and bend it to remove it, but I have a minnow head that takes some of the head when you do. This mold works better cutting them off in the smaller sizes.
i also use a emory board to sand down the rough spots....
I like to bend it back and forth a couple of times and then twist it off when it gets weak. Later I take a small pair of cutters and smooth the ends of the jigheads.
Bend, bend and twist. The bench top will smooth any roughness out, lead is very mallable. Watch out sanding, that's how you get fine particulate matter in the air. Also, the finer lead is, the easier it gets into your bloodstream and contaminates your work area. Use a file to remove larger areas of lead. Inhalation/ingestion are the same thing in exposure of anything, absorption through the skin is far slower with lead, good hygiene will prevent this. If you have kids it's very important, espescially girls. OK enough of Safety Dave
