im looking at a round head jig mold but i've got some questons about what round head jig mold to buy what is the diffenence between the style of barbs and collars and stagared barbs and is there any pros/cons to any of the different styles and combos of barbs/collars im not in a big hurry to buy one so im open to oppions and recommendations so let me know what yall think or have experinced
if you're going to use the ball had jigs for tying you do not want no caller you just want a ball the ones with the caller are usually barbed for plastic baits they do make some without the bar also but they do come back behind the head. I prefer to use all. No Barb behind the head. There are quite a few different molds and styles to pick from

single barb is what I have for plastics. Work great.

The barbed and staggered barbs are for plastics. The no collar (which you said you have) are mostly used for tying jigs and there's also a ball head jig with a collar and a very small ball where the a barb would be. These were used alot for tying bucktail jigs as the little ball end would help the bucktail flair out and also help hold the thread on.
They also have a ball head with a wire thread below it to help hold plastics, Pbug posted a thread on it http://www.crappie.com/crappie/diy-s...orks-them.html

If you want to use the plain ball head for plastics; place a drop od super glue between the lead and the plastic (where the two touch) The nice thing about this is the plastic will not split like it does sometimes with a jig with a collar. Everybody likes something different!!
so if you were me and I was u what would u pick between a Roundhead jig with a tapered barb collar or a roundhead jig with a tapered reverse barb collar?

I use the tapered reverse collar and I still use a dab of quick glue when putting my tube bodies on. If I'm using the slider head bodies I don't glue them so I can change the colors quicker, what weight head are you looking at, I only pour 1/32 oz. I buy anything bigger, also use a #6 jig hook. I hope this helps, oh I use the molds with the metal plastic covered handles, they seem to work better for me, not as awkward.
Tapered tears up the bodies less, that's my choice for most of my crappie gear. Straight barbed collar for baits 3" and longer hold the plastic better. I have both. Pro molds are so much easier to use, worth the extra money. Heads are lots cleaner and less flash to trim. Check Barlows for lots of info on them.
