Mounting a SI Transducer opinion

Got my new unit today and trying to figure out the best place to install the transducer on my boat. What I have is a 1989 Ranger 363v, it has a 12" Rite-Hite Jack Plate and I've read and heard some about people mounting the transducer on the jack plate. My question is does this require some extra part or piece? Or can you mount it as is? Is that better than mounting directly to the transom? I'm not necessarily excited about putting holes in my boat if I don't have to. Thanks for the help and advice in advance!

Ok I found some pics showing some different ways the transducer is mounted to the jack plate. But there's still some differences and I'm curious if there's one way better than the other. I've seen some mounted to the left, some to the right side and some in the middle, any thoughts?

I took a piece of alumn. 2 1/2" angle and mounted it to my jack plate. then mounted the tranducer to the angle No problems yet.
