North Barkley
All the local lakes here are flooded pretty bad so I am coming over to fish north Barkley
Thurs thru Sunday.
Would appreciate any info regarding current conditions for the crappie. Most interested in what depth the fish seem to be at.
Any real shallow fish ?
Been watching the lake levels and Barkley has held surprisingly consistent the last several days.
Thanks for the help,

I haven't been on the north end but I crossed at the 68 bridge today and it was a mud hole. The forecast is calling for more heavy rain this week and weekend. Likely won't improve. I caught crappie before the front on Kentucky in 8-10 feet. Black looked to have spawned and the whites still had eggs. I would expect them shallow before the fronts and pulling back to deeper water afterwards.

Yesterday, I fished the little river near the State Park for most of the day. We caught 25 crappies, but 10 were throw backs. The 15 keepers were not big slabs by any means, ranging in size from 11" to 15". Got them all in 7-10 feet of water around brush. Found nothing in shallow. Water was a bit muddy and 66 degrees.

Thanks guys,
I went today for 6 hours and only had one keeper and one short fish.
I always struggle on this lake for crappie. They act so much different than my home lake (Green)
Going to try it again tomorrow.

All 3 times I've tried Barkley this past week has been tough fishin. Water temps been runnin about 5-6 degrees colder on Barkley than on KY.
The females I've found on KY have been in 14 ft of 65 degree water.

Just to update, I finished 4 days with only 5 keeper crappie !!
Tried everything I could think of that you can do casting jigs and could not get a bite. Found plenty of fish on the sonar and lots of cover.
Felt a little better on the last day when I pulled up and talked to a guy that lives on the lake and crappie fishes a lot. He said it wasn't just me, the fishing has been bad on N. Barkley recently.
Even the guys with minnows weren't doing well.
I'm OK with it, just enjoy getting out, but I wish my kids could have had some action. Young boys get discouarged easy and want to go back to their video games
rather than staying on the water.
Good luck to all,
