Nails

I made some concrete/wooden slab dishpan type style cover....I want to add some wooden slabs to each one to make it longer....The wood is oak and it is super tough to drill through with screws...I was wondering does anyone know how regular nails will last in water?...I may have to go to the nail gun to go be able to add more wood slabs...

Maybe pre drilling with a drill bit then the a stainless or coated screw

Me and my buddy discussed this...We probably will end up just pre drilling...

Get some galvenized nails for your gun and they will outlast the wood.

EXCELLENT choice of oak, also osage orange, hickory, ash, mulberry, locust. Predrilling helps...good luck and good "splashing" them !

If ya using a framing nailer, that would be good, but I wouldnt use a finish nailer....nails be too thin I`d think. If it were me I`d predrill an use deck screws. They are coated to and will last longer, but anything eventually will rust. But if you really think about it, its gonna take a long long time before they would rust into and cause any boards to fall off. This post makes me think about these guys with the those side scan depthfinders with the pictures of old buildings, barns and other structures standing underwater, and they were built with just regular ole` hammered in nails. I`d just screw it.....no pun intended......your gonna get years of use out of it. Good Luck and Good Fishing !!!

Start making them shaped like an alien spaceship or something, then sink some mannequins and whatever else you can think of. That would 'blow' my mind if I saw somrthing like that on my graph. Go with it, could be fun. Kinda like going through your buddies trail cam in a Sasquetch suit. That'll make ya quit drinking!

Galvanized deck screws. Put a little "grease" on them and you'll be surprised at how easy they will screw into the toughest oak.
