I would suggest stopping your chenille at the hook point or as close as you can,the tail may be a little long but still in the working zone.It will still fish as you have it but you will improve with each jig you tye. With that said I would still say not bad for the first one.Good luck with your new obsession.

i guess i will have to trim it just a hair lol i had my 1 yr old bugging me while i was doing it so i did not pay attn. to the length lol

X2 what Tim stated above. Very nice for your 1st jig. Lookup greyhackle54 on youtube. Larry has some good crappie jig tutorials

looks great! White pearl is one of my favorite chenilles.
Check out this youtube it may give ya a few tips.

Nice work. When you shorten the tail, dont cut the tips. Lay down the material with the tips aligned and hold it together then cut off the base to the length you want. Try 3 or 4 wraps of chenille and see if you like the look. You're on the way.

I tie a lot of big or long tailed jigs up here for on Truman lake. I fish a lot of 3 in plastics so started tied a lot of 3+" marabou and hackle tailed jigs. We will even tip 3" plastics and hand ties with minnows in the summer while dipping standing timber. Looks good for your first and they will get easier and faster the more you tie.

Welcome to the world of tying..:):) That second jig you posted with catch fish along with the first one. Look forward to seeing many more pics of you tying. Thumbs Up

Yes don't cut the tips after it's tied. Cut the other end before it's tied in. Already told you what else I saw in email.
Personally I don't mind my tails being longer than most guys, but I figure the crappie has a big old mouth and when they are actually eating the jig they will have it all in their mouths. So I don't care about worrying about short strikes and I like a longer tail. Now it's different when we talk about bluegills.
