Our Week-End Project
Bonnie decided to grow herbs last year and she grew them in containers. They started out pretty good but soon became root bound due to the size of the containers. Didn't expect them to grow as good as they did. She decided that this year we would make a little raised bed for her herbs. I decided that I would get in on the action and plant a few tomatoes and some peppers. Don't want to do the whole garden thing as I grew up with huge gardens and know how much work there is to have a good one. Besides the deer would eat up everything in sight. This is the final product....

Nice looking garden project. Where did you get the slotted posts and boards? Are the boards 1x6 or 1x8? Did you make the slotted posts? I have never seen anything like them in a store before. Thanks for helping out with any information.

Nice garden Rick! Dirt won't pack down and good drainage. I'm not much of a gardener, but I tried it a couple of years. A good friend (and master gardener) told me about square foot gardening, which is the same thing you did, but I used landscape timbers stacked 2 high. Works well if you have time to take care of it. We did tomatoes, peppers, carrots, cucumbers...actually got some seed peanuts from a relative and grew some peanuts in it the second year. Hope you and Mrs. Bonnie have a lot of fun with it!

Looks good Rick. One of my favorite hobbies is vegetable/herb gardening. Finished mine a couple of weeks ago. Had to replace a few items due to hail damage from a massive storm. Thanks for the pics. Next time you go fishing, get some worms to put into that bed - works wonders!

Darn, those plants may well have flash burn from all the photos. Hope the garden does well.
