Crawfishing
When we moved here in July the crawfish season was done, we were told. So now it should be starting! We want to know what kind of traps are the easiest, where to go, how deep and anything else you can tell us...please.
We think it would be cool to catch our own crawfish for dinner! I'm only talking about 1-2 pounds of cooked tails at a time... not a 150 pound sack. I want to have a couple of spots I can go once every couple of weeks on a Mon or Tue. and get enough for dinner.
So how about it? I'm ready to soak up your wisdom.

Hey GB,
I think you can buy bait and traps at the Pierre Part Store | Home in Pier Part. Or make your own. You can use trash fish for bait too.
You can catch anywhere there's flooded swamp. When my kids were small we;d go to Rammah and catch off the levee.
Check wildlife and fisheries about a license.Recreational Fishing Licenses | Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
It's a lot easier to just buy a few pounds at your local seafood market.:)

We use to use the triangle style drop nets...You can buy these at most hardware stores...beef melt from a slaughter house or cut trash fish placed in the middle of net held by a clothes pin...Raise nets with a broomstick with a nail at the end....We would drop these in about a foot of water along the West levee of the basin...

You get what they call "pillow traps", its just a trap that well kinda looks like a pillow. Champion net co in jonesville has them. Just bait and tie a line to it and chunk it out. These traps you can leave overnight if you want. You can walk along the shore and if you see crawfish scooting away from the bank, they will leave little trails of mud in a hurry, then thats the spot.
