Millwood ???
I have always thought Millwood was a premier crappie lake, as good as Conway or better. Growing up my Father and I caught an unbelievable amount of crappie. What gets me is that very few posts about Millwood occur and those that do have very little useful information.
A couple folks post pretty good things about up the river but it is a very large lake with many different launch areas. I would like to hear about when the crappie are ready at Cotton Shed, or Saratoga, or Yarborough. Shallow cypress, weeds, or out deeper say 12', what about some of the oxbows like Mud Lake or Mcguire ?
I know last year the COE did some major work close to Beards Bluff pushing an enormous amount of brush and trees into the lake as shallow structure, has anyone fished it and caught crappie?
I will be fishing the lake tomorrow and Saturday for the first time in a year, I promise to post information afterwards.

I have a friend that has been fishing there every year for the past 25 years. He said he has been catching some very nice size crappie and this has been the best year he has ever had since he's been fishing Millwood Lake. He camps there every year for a month this time of the year. I'm glad he had a good year because he always brings me a mess to eat! Thumbs Up

We fished the State Park tourney at Millwood Sat. I think 24 lbs won it, 22 was second, and our 13 came in 3rd. The big fish was 39 oz.
We caught ours in a shallow cove on minnows 12 to 16 inches deep. Apparently on a bed, all males, very dark colored. Fished some cypress groves with no luck. Did not fish any deep water.Don't know what the water temp was. We were able to find some fish by covering a lot of water and casting to every stump in that cove. The same action in other coves did not produce anything. Picture is what we caught Friday.

24 lbs %$#^&%*%%$% I need to take up golf! It seems that I covered half the state this weekend and have very little to show for it. Friday evening I put in at the HWY 71 Bridge on Millwood, I didn't boat the first fish until minutes before dark, and ended up with 3 crappie, 3 sandbass, and 2 bream. I released them all. after the slow evening on Millwood and the expected wind I went to Dierks Sat morning. I left about 11:00 with a bad headache and 1 crappie (released it too). I didn't fish sat evening due to the same freakin headache. Left Foreman at 4 am this morning homeward bound and decided to hit Hinkle on the way home. 1 crappie and a bunch of dink sizes bass. I would have been okay with that but there were some guys at the cleaning station dressing out a dump truck load of crappie. Guess I'll just have to practice more. + I had a great time with my dad.

well i had one of the slowest days fishing sat. on millwood that i have had in a long time. also fished place that I have not fished before. Still was a humbling day. Like fishbasket said I have read and know little about the main lakeof millwood. I have spent many a days up and down little river around white cliffs and catch plenty of fish. just wish i knew more about how and where to fish the main lake at times. Had a good time at the state park tourny but wish we would have limited out.lol
