Opinions on this?
Or...is it not so smart to think there is a way to install a transducer on the trolling motor and just move the 1198c from front to the back as I go between the console and the trolling motor?
Thanks for the input for this new guy!

That is awesome to be put in that perdictment,I would certainly put the 1198 on the console. Go with 898 or lesser on the bow. By moving from back to front,I think would be tiresome after awhile. This is just my opinion.

Thanks for the input!
But...to clarify, it would cost the same to buy 2 898's as it would to buy 1 1198c and move it back and forth. So, which to choose? Big screen, a bit more hassle moving the thing around in the boat...or small screen and have a unit in both places.
2-898's - you will be happy not moving. I got a extra unit from Kenny to solve that moving around problem. Thanks to Kenny!!!!!
Thanks for that input!
Now...I just need someone to help me stop with my pixel envy as that 1198 is so much bigger screen size wise!
(I guess the last thing I want to do is get out there and be squinting at a smaller screen not really seeing things like you would on the 10.4" screen. I have no time logged with any kind of SI unit to go by, as far as personal experience.)
I would go with LowranceThumbs Up
Take your time.. If you can get out on the lake with someone
with a Lowrance.. Do it!

Daniel
I am an unhappy 997 Donut owner:mad:
Oh man, don't get me going with that, brother! :)
I was all set to buy the HDS-10 yesterday (as the Lowrance rebate ended then) but after extensive research on this (and many others) forum I decided to go with Humminbird because of reliability, customer service, simplicity of installation, better SI, and also talking extensively to Cabela's employees that have story after story of unhappy Lowrance owners having to send units in for repairs. The only con's I saw with HB was the donut (of course) and a tad less detail with down imaging. I was truly on the fence, but what really pushed me to HB was that over and over there are three camps it seems...happy Lowrance owners, happy HB owners, and then disgruntled Lowrance owners that switched over to HB. I never got vibes from any HB owners (except the donut) that were so unhappy that they switched to Lowrance.
So...the donut...it really comes into play when one is in open water trying to sit on a GPS marker, or when trolling below .5 MPH, is this right? And...is the consensus is that HB could fix this with a software update and (hopefully) will in the future?
Thanks for all the info, fellows.
I'd go with the 1198 and move it around. You can always save up for a different unit up front.
By the way, I move my console unit to the rear when I'm pullin( just started doing this this year ) and its not that big a hassle. Adds a couple of minutes to my setup routine.
If you're constantly moving from location to location, you could just swivel it around
I will tell you my tale about moving unit and let you make up your own mind. last year I bought a HB 788 ci. I got a trolling motor transducer to go along with the normal one. I already had an older HB on the bow, so I though what the heck I can just use the mount just need to wire the new transducer to it. Long story short. It worked great for a few times. But one time I was in the process of moving the unit when I got hit with the wake of a bass boat going by at 65MPH at 5ft. Yep, I dropped the unit into 65 ft of water. Try explaining to the wife why you need $650.oo more money for a unit to repleace the one you dropped in the lake. Save yourself the embarassment and get two units. Switching units on a liquid medium is an accident waiting to happen.
Good point BF. The original poster should probably consider that. I'm not as worried with my setup as the ethernet cable stays plugged in when I make the switch. That cable would have to either break or come unscrewed.
