Installation Questions

Hey fellas,

I finally have my new Humminbird 597 HD DI Combo as well as my new Minn Kota V2/US2.

Before I go tearing into trying to install them tomorrow due to the crappy weather, I just wanted a little reassurance since I'm new to this.

So, with the trolling motor having a built-in transducer, do I just connect that to the headunit with the pin cord I also picked up? I noticed the transducer that comes with the headunit is tear drop shaped. So, if I don't hook up the factory transducer, am I losing functionality somewhere?

And from what I have read here, the pointed end of the transducer needs to "point" out
towards the front of the boat correct?

What size inline fuse should I use for the live wire on the finder?

I purchased one of the Minn Kota battery boxes that has the circuit breaker built in. I was going to use this for the trolling motor battery. Yes, I only have 12V trolling motor.

This is my first installation and would greatly appreciate any and all advice/tips from you guys since I don't trust anyone else :)

I don't think the US2 has any DI capabilities so you'll be losing that functionality. You'll have to use the x-ducer that came with the unit so really there is no need to hook the US2 up.

You should use a 3A fuse for the unit.

Got the trolling motor mounted and powered. Gotta pick up the 3amp inline fuse and some 18 gauge wire to be able to reach my battery.

Well, I'm going to have to buy another finder to work with the US2 :) oh darn
Finally, a great reason to upgrade the console unit that came with the boat.

Any suggestions? Might as well stay with Humminbird since I already have the 7 pin cable extension I need for the hookup to the US2 on the tm. Should I leave the down imaging unit up front or move it to the console? Not sure if I even need to use the US2 at this time. As you can tell, not too experienced on trying to configure different setups.

i just got my boat back last week i had a new motorguide 67 lb thrust trolling motor and a new x 96 fish finder with temp sensor built in the transducer put on my trolling motor it cost me 95.00 i wasnt going to attempt to install it

Just about any of the Humminbird units, except for the DI and Si units, will work on the Minn Kota US2 transducer.
