898 SI Question
I am trying to learn/research before purchase. Can anyone explain peak-to-peak watts. I have read different specs on the 898. One website said the unit had 4000 ptpn but the bass pro magizine and universalmania.com showed it had 8000 ptp.
Can verify and state the importance

8000 watts peak-to-peak requires a different high power transducer than the one that is packaged with the unit. Try and not worry too much about the unit's power output to the transducer. Any of the units sold these days has more than enough power to work well in water up to several hundred feet deep.

Does the increased power allow for better quality in image interpetation or allow to see smaller objects more clearly etc?
-
I think the more power the deep depths it would read... Only way I see it necessary is if you are fishing really really deep water off shore...
-
Yea from the research I've done its mostly for saltwater fishing

That power rating is only possible with the lower frequency 50/200kHz 1KW transducer and not an Si transducer. The standard HDSi transducer that comes with the 898c Si unit is all that you need.
