Has anyone ever had any luck repairing a plastic gas tank? I have 2 Evinrude Duratanks and one of them has a 3" crack in it near the fill hole. I have repaired it with epoxy twice and it lasts for a while but eventually it opens back up again. I guess the pressure in the tank caused it to flex enough for the joint to fail. Any thoughts?
You might try fiberglass, I think Wal Marts sells the stuff you will need.
Use a soldering iron and same type plastic as old tank heat crack and other donor plastic and weld it back together ive done this with plastic radiator tanks and other hard to find plastics on old vehicles where the part is no longer available or exspensive to replace.My 93 Dodge diesel i repaired tank this way 6 years ago and it still doesnt leak hope this helps.
dinihart is right, I have repaired ag chemical tanks full of spray like that.
I never thought of doing that. I did something similar to an old vcr many years ago and it worked pretty well.Quote:
