Beaver Lake
How do you locate and catch crappie from Monte Ne and above? I catch a lot of crappie around Hwy 412 to War Eagle but cant seem to catch crappie in the clear waters. Being from Mississippi I'm used to muddy and stained water crappie fishing. I think I'm not fishing deep enough. How deep will the crappie be this time of year?

water temp plays a big part in the equation. the lake fills from that end that your fishing, so it will warm faster down there and you are right on in what your doing. as the water warms you will be able to move north up around prairie creek and such at this time you will find them near boat docks very near points near deeper water. any thing with chartruse in it on a 1/16 jig head will usually work for you, minnows over a slip rig will work good

go to blue springs area and put in great crappie fishin there this time of year

Prairie Creek arm, Blackburn arm and Monte-NE are all good places to find crappie. This time of year they hang close to brush piles near creek channels. On warmer days they suspend above the brush piles or under blown down trees and can be caught with a jig under a float 4 to 6 feet deep. If they are holding tight to the brush a jig fished along the pile will work best. I target piles in the mid lake area 15 to 35 feet deep.

Well bless my soul, Stinky's Daddy, long time no see. We need to plan another crappie outing. I need plenty of notice because its a long drive over there.

Went back to Mont Ne Sunday and only caught 4 keeper crappie. I'm gonna keep trying but just don't catch as many crappie above War Eagle as I do further south.
