I love those tasty bluegill! I'm planning a trip to Mermat lake in Southern Illinois in the next couple of weeks. They have an 8 inch creel limit on bluegill in that lake. The biggest I caught out of there went a little over 10 inches, but it's hard to throw back a 7 1/2 inch bluegill.
Better check and see if they have filled it back up yet. They draw in down to flood for duck season. Have caught many nice red ear from mermet.
They're gonna start pumping water back in towards the middle of the month. The lake is still recovering from the fish kill that happened a year or so ago, but I think the creel limit will help w/ the quality of fish.
