Hello all. I'm in the market for a new trolling motor for my 1981 bass tracker 16 foot. I was looking at the minnekota pd-v2 45 lb thrust. Any thoughts on whether this will work out good or do I need to go a little bigger? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had a PD40 on a 16' stick steer and wish I had gone bigger. Windy days sent me home. Buy as big as you can afford. You'll like the PD, and the auto pilot is the good stuff if you troll at all. Hands of operation and stay on track. I pilot is best but will probably break out of the budget. Good luck with your choice.
there are times the 45 would be enough but there are very many days you would be wishing for more power. imo go with the largest thrust you can afford and then get the next size bigger.:)of course being from kansas wind probably won't be much of a problem anyway.:D
Go at least 55 or higher. I would prefer a 24v system so a 60 be a good choice.
I have a 175 crappie pro alumacraft and I had an edge 40lb foot control and on windy days I had to turn it up and I just never seemed to have enough power. I upgrade to the 55lb PD with co-pilot and I love love it. :) I would have went bigger but I did not have room for the two batteries. Just my thoughts on it.

I have only used Motorguide but my next one will definitely be a Minn Kota.....I saw a TM at BPS yesterday for $300 I believe it was a 45# and it looked like it was made by MK based on the foot pedal...looked nice....it was a BPS brand....
