I'd check it before you buy it. the only way to do this is get the owner to let you open the container, stir it and check for clumps if it has some it could be a sign that it was left in the sun and hardened due to moisture. If that's the case I wouldn't buy it.
I agree, shake at least or open it if you can. There should be a near unlimited shelf life aside from exposure to heat or moisture.
Thanks checked them out they were lumpy. Thought I had a good deal
If the lumps crumble easily you still might have a deal. See if they will let you try some - throw it in an old coffee grinder.
I tried sifting some a while back, came out looking like it had the measles. Neat effect, but not what I was after. I took it back and got a good one. Might work if you could find a real tight mesh sifter made out of stainless steel to crumble the lumps without messing up the mesh like I think would happen with synthetic. A automotive paint filter came to mind, just never tried it.
Too much work, just ordered some from Barlows. Thanks for the advice.

Good move dvuks. Clumps are no good. I have powder coats over ten years old. Do not expose your powder to any more air that you have to, reseal as soon as your done and keep it climate controlled and it will last for years.
