Anybody familiar with aluminum boat construction? I'd like to know if they use a sealer of some type on riveted hull seams. The reason I ask, is I'd like to have a patch welded to the hull, but it's close to a seam. Sure don't want to mess up a sealant if one is used.
call the manufacture to be safe , but I'd say no it's okay to weld if you can weld Alum
Shellback, you can order PRC Proseal 1422 from Wicks Aircraft. This is what wee use to seal pressureized aluminum aircraft fuselages together with...good stuff

on the old rivited boats they didn't use any sealant and i doubt even on the later boats. you should see the bottom of my old '76 duck boat. half the bottom has been replaced with no problem with the rivits next to the welds leaking. just make sure the guy knows aluminum welding.
