can you increase tension on shaft, we are trying to troll with it but i can't take my foot off pedal. More tension would help hold course. can anyone out there help us.

I had same problem with mine.Never found anything I could do to change tension.Also could not get speed right. I had to change motors:(
There is a product out there that goes on the shaft that puts tension where the two shafts come together and it is adjustable. I had it bookmarked but it is not there. You might try google, trolling motor tension or something like that. I'll try and find it. Granite

Someone had mentioned cutting a piece of rubber hose and clamping it to the lower shaft where it rubs against the upper shaft to create friction.

I have a 5 speed motorguide magnum and its about on its last leg, I'm not sure what the thrust specs etc even are on the thing. It came with my boat new and I didn't buy the boat new.. What would be a good replacemnt for it???? The boat is a procraft 1660v with a 110 johnson....
I have a set speed motor, and had a Minn Kota Power drive on my last boat, and I miss it. Variable speed is definitely key and the PD motors stay where you point them. There's also lots of options for auto pilot and I pilot, and if you troll you should look into these. Good luck in your searchQuote:

ive got a17 ft challenger with a 115 and i have a motor guide 67 lb thrust and it does real good
