Motor Help!
OK guys, remember last year I had to replace my impeller on my motor? Well, I did and it works great moving water through the motor! :) But as soon as the motor is started it's in gear! and darts me through the water!
On top of that, I have no reverse or neutral.
What did I break? :(

well first what kind of motor do you have take it out gear and see if the prop spins it could be 2 or 3 things wrong the throttle cable the gear box and so on

You probably had to(or should have) taken the shift linkage loose to remove the lower unit in order to get to the impeller. When you put it back together you didn't line the linkage up correctly. Depending on the motor the connection is possibly outside of the case so it should be a kwik fix.
Ditto on what motor you have?

You hopefully didn't break anything. You just got the shift linkage out of sync. Pull the foot back off. Next reset the gear selector to neutral at tiller or control box depending on which you have. While the foot is off, turn the shift rod on the foot,to the position that will allow the prop to turn either direction, indicating that neutral gear has been achieved. No adjustment should be made on any of the upper section of the motor if shifting was normal prior the the impeller change.Re stab foot and prior to attaching all bolts, confirm that your shifter is changing through F_N_R properly.
I've changed more than my share of water pumps impellers, and have gotten in the habit of checking the shift linkage as a part of the reassembly process. Happens to everybody.

depending on the engine you might not have to pull the foot, some of the older small Mercs(Tohatsus) you can get to it without it.
