Upcoming Saline/Larto skinny water bite

Well, with two successful deeper water trips here now, I need to get ready for the spawn and learn how to do it better than my usual lackluster efforts till the bream wake up.

Might some of you experts give some hints on how you would fish the usual bayous once the water temps hit +/- 55 or so? What are your targets? Less spider rigging now? Are bigger fish the norm or the exception? Do you stay on larger bayous, or the smaller feeders? This will be my first shallow water season there, if I can work it around turkey season! :D

One thing about the big pack of boats, it makes the speeders slow down to crawl speed (mostly). Once everyone spreads out to fish the edges, is constant boat wakes a big problem?

I fish the smaller canals and use a Gold Jig made by "Jenny Jigs" with Orange head smaller the better under a small Float. I fish in the brush, March is the best time

I've found there's several ways to fish the spawn on Saline Larto (and I use jigs only). One is to fish around the shallow cypress trees located in the lower end of Saline Lake and elsewhere. Just keep moving and fish as many as you can. Another is to walk the bank and fish the button willows. You only need about 10 inches of line out and just dabble where you can in water anywhere from 8 inches to a foot deep. It can be sort of tough walking through all the brush, but also real exciting trying to horse a slab out of the bushes. Fish right up next to the willow trunks. Finally, you can do what I've been doing all winter. Use about 18 inches of line and just slowly troll along parallel to the bank in about 2 feet of water. Make note when you find a stretch that holds fish and go back to it every now and then.
