I just ordered a H.B. 596c HD DI. I am going to mount it up front on the trolling motor. Has anyone had any experience with this unit. If anyone has any tips or info to pass on it would really be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bigminner :)

The most important thing to remember when mounting the xducer on the TM with any SI or DI unit is the shape of the sonar beam...
The sonar beam is very wide left to right...but very thin front to back...
Try to picture a chinese folding fan opened up directly under your xducer pointing straight down, but perpendicular to the path of the boat....
Turning the xducer with this type of sonar shaped beam xducer can cause skewed images on your screen....
This can be minimized by turning the TM very slowing but you will still have to learn to interpret how the actual images depicted on the screen are relating to the actual bottom....
I think you will love the unit...and post questions on anything ..including how to interpret those images...

I think you are really going to like the Di pict on the 596. Stopped @ bass pro store fri morning, few customers in store, The assist. manager (only guy who really has any smarts on electronics in store) just finished putting out a new 596 & 788 on Display counter. So he & I played with the 596 awhile(45min) That Di display is great 640X640 pixels as we played with background colors we found that no not the normal blue or gold as you sometimes see in adds BUT the brown/lite tan color makes that unit rock!!!!!!!!!!!
As I was starting to leave about 1/2 dozen guys came over to look at Hb & LOw's units & I tell you the sharpness on the 596 just blew them out of the water. That Di shot was the best pict of all the units & brands. And no I do not like HB DONUTS.....;).
Thanks, just what I was wanting to hear. I can't wait till it gets here. If anyone has used one on the water I would like to hear your thoughts also.
Thanks again,
Bigminner
Just got one Saturday at the Bass Pro in Macon, Georgia. In the process of mounting it now. I hope to have it on the water soon. Like Jax said the images in the store were sweet! I'll post up when I actually run it.
Hi ,i recieved same unit from America 2 weeks ago,i'm living in west of Ireland and am a guide fishing the many wild waters .I printed out the pages from the disc and read them twice ,then went unto the lakes,i found after a few day's normal sonar was better set at 200khz,dsi at 455khz,and the split screen was the best to view .dsi showed up any fish as tiny flecks on the screen difficult to make out,the sonar on the top screen showed the shoals of fish excellent.i put switchfire to clear, bottom to structure id,sensitivty to 17.The zoom is excellent. Picture of one Trout i caught beside one of the shoals. It takes a while of trial and error to get it right, but once mastered it is one of the besAttachment 55623tAttachment 55622.Attachment 55621
kenny12,
Welcome, "great pictures", really nice trout. Thanks for the information on the settings. Good pictures of the "2d sonar", how did the "down imaging" work on your lake? This may be a dumb question but do you have crappie in your waters in Ireland?
I have just gotten my new unit mounted but haven't had a chance to take it on the water yet.
It is good to hear from someone from another part of the world.
