Go to Barlowes tackle they have the best hook guide I've ever found. Crimped sprout hooks are used in poppers and some crappie jigs See if I can post a pic in a few minutes.

I tie a lot of flies on a sproat hook. All of what I tie are wet flies, mostly streamers. The sproat hooks allows for a bigger fly body to be tied. Is is a great scud and shrimp hook. Anyhtng that has some girth to the fly so that you have a decent hook gap after using a lot of material.
