I had a 1756 Gen III that a 45" was plenty. I see posts occasionally about someone whacking their shaft. That's not so surprising around here, but I was curious as to about how long it was when you quit. :D Are the 45"'s that hard to find, or do you need something in the middle ground?
I dont think Ive seen a 45 . 48 is about normal. I have a 54 on a bass tracker and 14 in is sticking up. Makes it easier to retract you dont have to bend over so far.
im going to get a 60 and leave it alone, i dont mind having extra sticking up
I've got the 60,at first thought it be lot of trouble with the length but so far no problem.

Have the 60", Terrova 80lb IPILOT US2 seems easy to stow and not in the way so far ? Had the 48"PDV2 on before this one, so not much diff.in the height ,but boy is a great TM , stows way better !!!!!!

I have a 48" shaft on my 15" seaark stick steering aluminum boat. I think it is plenty long. I feel if it is not in the way of your spider and you fish deeper water most of the time a 60 " would work. Its going to stick up but like I said if its not in your way who cares. I have some pictures of mine posted on the ark forum. Look on page 4 ( 1st crappie of 2011) and (midnight F150's Boat Help) Let me know if you have any more ?. It is one nice trolling motor!

I bought a 60" and whacked it down to 50". Have plenty sticking up and can drop it deep on those rough days.
I have a 60" and choke down on the shaft about 8" so it's easier to retract when it's time to move to the next spot.
60" ( Terrova 80lb IPILOT US2 ) on my 18.5' deep "V" Works great.
I also added the Ram mount TM stablizer to use in rough water and trailering..Super good idea.
