Found a boat I might be able to get but they sprayed the bottom with bed liner spray. On the outside of the boat???? Wouldn't that cause a lot of drag going thru the water? It is 17' long with an older 25hp Evinrude. Just not sure of the bed liner spray on the bottom? What do you all think? Ferdi aka Fred
All the bedliners I have seen were kinda rough so that would create significant drag. Can't help but wonder why they did that. Leaks maybe??
That sure would create a lot of drag. I think it would need to be stripped, then you're liable to find some problems. I think I'd stay away from that boat!

Bed liners tout non-skid as a selling point. Regardless of an increased drag factor relative to speed and fuel consumption, the non-skid function of the bed liner,would in my opinion have serious potential downsides.
Launching and loading onto the trailer.
Stranding you atop a stab or stump in the wintertime due to the hull not being able to slide free.
Potential engine damage due to RPM's lugging due to hull dragging, not allowing proper power curve achievement.

I would go ahead and pass on that one.
they make two types of finish with bed liner rough and (sorta) smooth. the smooth looks like orange peel at least the ones I have seen. but I can guarantee ya one thing if the surface was sanded or cleaned properly before it was applied youll never get that stuff off.

Sounds like a wise move. Only boat I've seen with that type stuff on the outside was peeling anyway. A friend with Legendcraft boats puts in on this inside for no slip.
That sounds like a good idea. Wonder how much sound insulation that would give? I couldn't weigh much and sure would improve my footing.Quote:
