Anyone been? How thick is it?
Dad checked the pond behind his house (Fosterburg, IL) yesterday and said it was 3" thick. We did some cold water/ice rescue training at work in the Alton Marina, just off the Mississippi River, on Monday and the ice there was not quite 2" thick there. As far as reports go, I haven't been out yet, but would like to get out soon. Judging by the ten day forecast, I won't be doing anything but "hard" water fishing for a while..
A friend and I went to the infamous Banner Marsh on Monday. There was 4 to 6" of good, hard ice on the places we tried. I caught a 5# LMB and my friend caught a 15" bass also. Only had 1 more bite in 2.5hrs of fishing. We were looking for crappie.
6 inches or so here in ford county. fish are biting early and late in day right off bottom.
You better be wearing your fur lined jock if you are ice fishing around here. LOL I belive the ice is safe.
