My "AnchorBoy" partner is getting lazy in his old age so I'm thinking of replacing him with an electric anchor winch on my bow. Would like to hear opinions on if they're worth it or not. The fancy ones cost upwards of $375. Don't mind spending that kind of money if they're worth it but a couple of the product reviews I'm reading aren't good. Pins and gears breaking, anchors coming loose while underway and damaging the hull, etc.
My wife and i have a 861 war eagle boat, and the electric anchor that we use on it is a Minn Kota Deckhand 40. we have had no trouble with it, we did not buy the anchor that it shows on the box, we bought one of the 20 lb. anchors from walmart or bass pro. If you look on Amazon.com you can usually buy one of these for 220.00 and free shipping.
The one we have now is on the back of our boat, and we bought the remote switch for it and run the anchor from the front of the boat, we like it well enough that we are going to purchase one for the front of our boat also. Hope this helps.
