I have 2 optimas in series for my 24 volt minn kota. Do they make a solar battery charger for this application. I was wondering if I could just hook it up to the posts on one battery and have it charge both, or would I need 2 chargers, one to each battery? Can you use them while on the water?
It is not that simple. You better off with a on board charger, even if you have to run an extension cord a mile or two.
You would need some very large solar panels to charge a deep cycle battery.

It would seem that with 2 batteries, you should be able to fish all day or a couple days on a charge?
Where will you mount the panels? They are going to be around 2'X4' sheets of glass and you'll need one for each battery. Even then, a panel this size will only recharge the batteries less than 1/10th as fast as the TM uses power.Quote:

Advantages: Design, Value for money"I was skeptical of the solar battery charger due to it's small size and thought I might have wasted my money, but it has turned out to be a great accessory. Since it's a trickle charge, I leave it connected to my trolling motor 24/7 while in the boat. Under my car port (where I store the boat), I get indirect sunlight late in the afternoon on the solar panel. It takes about 3-4 days to charge the trolling motor battery under these conditions. However, last week while on the lake, I ran my trolling motor battery charge low. So I cruised the lake while exposing the solar panel to direct sunlight and the battery charge was 3/4th charged within an hour! It's compact size allows for easy storing on the boat. This is an accessory which is well worth the $38 bucks. Don't let the small size of the unit fool you, it does the job!"

Sparky I am shocked and outraged that you would fall for that. REMEMBER if its too good to be true it probably is.
