Melting lead in ladel ?

Hello, I pour jigs for myself and make maybe 10-15 at a time for use. I'm useing a Lee's 2 oz. steel ladel with wood handle to melt clean pure lead in and pour. I use a propane torch under the ladel that sits on a stand. At first it melts and is nice and silver and clean, after a few pours and more lead added I get a scaley build up around the bowl and spout. The lead starts to turn a goldish scaley color on top but pour cleand and silver from underneth. When I'm don e and dump the lead out I'm left with a rusts/mud like residue that has to be scraped out. Any advice you can give ? -Thanks :confused:

we have it in our pots as well. My self i just scoop it out and go on. No matter how clean and pure it is you will get it, I guess its like oxidation. And i flux my lead alot everytime i add new lead. I think we actually discussed this a week or so ago.

Like Bug said no matter how much you flux or clean you'll still get it. Use an old spoon and skim it off, it's just part of pouring.

Yours may be tougher because you are working in such a small area. Fluxing with a small amount of candle way will make it easier to pull together. Be careful because it could flame up on you. Not a bad idea to invest in a small Lee pot if you're going to do very many.
