I bought a brand new boat and trailer in Feb. of this year. The grease zert for the bearings is located in the end of the spindle shaft. I have always used buddy bearings before but these new type are a little confusing as to how much grease you should pump without blowing the rear seal. Mine throw a little grase sometimes but not much. Can anyone shed some light on the proper way to use this system without damaging the rear seal or the bearings?

Sounds like the EZ-lube system, the zerk is on the spindle right? I think with this system when you pump in new grease the old grease is pumped out. Pretty sure, nice system!
It's a good system, as it pushes the grease to the inner and outer bearing equally. Bearing buddies force the grease thru the outer bearing, inner hub, and then thru the inner bearing. You really don't need to continue greasing them once full, as they are sealed with the cap and rubber plug. I just pop the rubber plug off a few times a season to make sure there's no water infiltration.
Which side are you slinging grease (inner or outer)? That may be an indication either you've got too much grease in or a bad seal. I have the same set up on my trailer (tracker BMT) and it was slinging grease on the inside of one wheel. I just took it apart, got a new inner seal, and put it all back together, and was careful about filling it back up. Now, no grease is being slung on the inside. So I'm thinking I had maybe blown the original seal due to lack of experience/knowledge about this new type of system. Just fill it up to where a little bit of old grease comes out, and put back together. Then use it a few times, and check the amount of grease and if there is any water behind the rubber cap. if everything looks ok, good to go.
I think its a great system I have it on a tracker trailer. I usually pull the rubber cap and pump some new grease in and take the old out with a Q TIP. iF YOU KEEP PUMPING in more you have to have room in the cap for the grease to expand. I put a few pumps in everytime I go and take out excess. I like it alot more than bearing buddys. It is a fool proof system. You can never have a brg. failure with this system unless they are adjusted too tight.

With bearing buddies, you pump just enough grease into the hub for the plate the zerk in on to rock. Following those directions, you shouldn't push grease past the seal. The system you have now really just requires you to grease it once till the hub and bearings are full. If you continue to add grease, it will blow past the seal. I may add grease once or twice after cleaning and greasing, but once full, I never add more grease. Just keep an eye out for water intrusion.
Guys I have been using these for years .. on my second trailer with the "Thru Spindle" lube.
Instructions I had to start with ... Pop off the rubber cover pump in grease til U get some over flow ... If you think the grease needs to be replaced ... get you a container to hold under the hub and start pumping until new grease comes out .. this should be done every so often ... I lost the whole cover one time ... I think some one "Borrowed It" ...
I just checked mine yesterday ... Jacked each wheel... spun it to check it out and re lubed ... Did a bunch of stuff on trailer and boat ... had not washed it in some time (15' Xpress) and I have a Racing Stripe from the river "Scum" and it has baked on with the summer heat ... tried my old & proven Gunk "Tar & Bug" Remover and some Elbow grease ... no luck ... maybe I needed to use more Elbow Grease (But I did not have it "In Me" ... Tough to get older)
