Am going to purchase a new unit this year, Really like the 596 HD DI but only if it has Switch fire and Duel Beams ?????? Saw in the on line catalog that the DI unit has a different transducer XNT -9 - DI -T where the HD unit had the XNT -9 -20 - T Transducer ??? Can someone clear this up ??
The 596c HD DI has Down Imaging but is single beam only (with switchfire) for traditional 2D sonar (200 kHz). The 596c HD lacks Down Imaging but is a dual-beam 2D (with switchfire) unit.
The 597ci units parallel the capabilities of the two 596s but also have internal 50 channel GPS and map chip reading capabilities.
ding dab nab it , you just can't get the best of both in a single unit ! What happens if you put the DI on a Xnt 9 20 T can you use both tranduciers ??? on this unit ???
If you put a 596 HD Di unit on an XNT-9-20-T DualBeam transducer the 200kHz conventional “2D” sonar will work but that is it. The 83kHz 2D sonar will not work in the Di unit as it does not have the circuitry or programming for it.
The same would happen if you put a 596c unit on the XNT-9-Di-T transducer: the 200kHz would work but there would be no Di sonar.
Just went to the Factory Outlet Store .com Humminbird store , list a 596 HD Di with a XNT 9 20 T with Di and duel beam plus is this a missprint or has a change been made ?????

The “Di” units will ship out with the XNT-9-Di-T DownImaging transducers.
The non-“Di” 596 units (model 596c HD) will ship out with the XNt-9-20-T DualBeam transducer.

Well I'll be , doesn't show up this way , go to the web and type in Humminbird new for 2011 , in the humminbird store it shows both 596 HD Di there ??
I still don't see it Rice Rocket. In fact i cannot find any of the 500 series Di units on the web site. I do know that they are currently working on updating the web site so maybe it was there when you looked but not when i did.
