I have 2 FM 320s less than a yr old. Some how My terrova pinched the cable on the front one where it passed through the Clamp and now it is not showing much detail. I switched the units and same thing. Has anyone ever repaired a cable with success? If not then maybe someone out there has a lowrance/Eagle that crashed but the TD is still good and wants to sell it. Pm me if you do.
May as well try fixing it. Cant do any worse can you? Make sure you solder the wires back together. If it doesn't work, try ebay or LEI electronics, for a new ducer.
Never been able to fix a ducer cable,but if you want to upgrade I might be selling my HDS5,its about 6 months old PM me if interested.
Get it good and dry, check that the shield is connected and that all of the wires are intact. Seal it with liquid electrical tape and it should be good.
If that doesn't fix it, you can cut the cable and splice each wire and the shield individually and seal it up.
It is possible that a wire could have broken at a point where the cable jacket wasn't broken. That can be difficult to find.
Thanks. I take it that the shield is the medal foil that wraps it all up. I think I will do as you suggested and cut out a piece where there are several mashed places. In the mean time, I have moved the back TD cable to the front where I need it the most and now I am leaving to try it out and maybe catch a few crappie while I am there. Also, I have fixed the cable so it can't get kinked again.Quote:

If you cut the whole works, get a selection of heat shrink tubing for the individual wires and the whole cable. Stagger the cuts in the wires so the joints don't line up. Solder each wire and heat shrink it. Solder the shield, then apply a coat of liquid electrical tape to the whole joint. Once it dries well, heat shrink the whole joint making the tubing go 3 or 4 inches on either side of the joint. Then paint the ends of the tubing with liquid electrical tape.
I will get on that first thing tomorrow. I will have to take out about 3 feet of cable because there are several severe pinches. The part that I repair never gets in the water but I will still waterproof it like you said. I will let you know how it works and thanks a million. Ray
