Will the new HB Down Image only unit have a seperate transducer for the DI like Lowrance or will it be a software thing and use an existing rransducer? If it is a new transducer what will be the cone angle?

From what I heard is it will have the 20 degree beam and the DI on the same transducer. I would think it would have to be a new model transducer to accomplish this. Another step ahead of lowrance as there version will have down scan only. My money is going on a bird
Sorry for the late reply Don G. They’ve been keeping me busy with my real job here at Humminbird (and my Wife at home…) so I have not been able to get back out to all the boards I post on.
The new “Di” units that we are coming out with for 2011 all use a new transducer. It will have the standard 20 degree 200kHz 2D sonar beam plus the 86 degree 455kHz Di sonar beam. Remember that while the 200kHz beam is conical in shape, the Di beam will be very wide left-to-right but narrow front-to-back in order to get the detail in the Di images that everyone wants.
will we be able to upgrade the transducer and software on current models or will it have to be a total new unit?
tom
Yep, we are talking a total new unit here.
The new “Di” designated models require a different transducer and internal circuitry in the units as well as software. If it were just a transducer and software upgrade than you would be able to do so but the difference in internal circuitry nixes the deal here.
I wish they would have given these Di units different model names as it would have cut down on the confusion (mine especially)!
